Tips & Tricks to Earning the Most Points with Gather.com

I have been saving up my Gather.com gift cards to get another Kathy Van Zeeland bag. I saw a few nice ones last week but not many on final clearance. I always wait till they go on final clearance to purchase them because the savings is HUGE, especially when you use your free Gather.com giftcards! Check out the bag I just purchased –

This bag retails for $115.00. It was on sale for $80.50 (30% off) – PLUS an additional 10% off, making it $69.00 -

Then I used my $55 in Gather.com gift cards and ended up scoring this $115 bag for only $18.14, counting tax!

As you can see below, Gather.com can really pay off.

I joined in December of 2006 and didn't start using the program a whole lot until mid 2007. I created a group and began republishing content that I would also sell to Associated Content (non exclusive rights). It took me a little while to figure out how to build up point quickly and I have found a system that works great! As you can see, my first couple gift cards were pretty spread out. I was waiting until I got enough points to get $25 cards. It seemed like it took a long time to get each card and I was only earing about $125 a year (still not bad for simply republishing work that I was also gettting paid for by Associated Content). Now, in 2009 I have streamlined a system that works really well. If implemented properly you can earn 25 to 70 points a DAY! Here's how it works -

When you join Gather, create a group. The best groups are the ones that allow anyone to publih content. If you make too "niche" of a group (i.e: "Stories aboutfishing in Alabama") you will discourage people from publishing content. Also, if you choose to monitor your group heavily (not allow certain visitors, limit the amount of content people can post per day, only allow "invited" guests to post) you will be really ruining how many points you can earn! The more people who publish content, post comments, etc - the more points you earn!

After your group has been created, make sure you place content in it; good content. Stuff people will want more of. This will keep people coming back to your group.

Also, join other groups that have content similar to what you like to write about and what you plan to publish in your group. Whenever you post content to your group, also post it to the other groups that it fits in with. Now you are earning even more points! As people see your content in their groups, they will comment on it then come visit your group...all earning you points.

ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW:

Try and post at least 4 to 6 articles per week when you first join. You don't have to republish daily, but if you can you will earn your points faster. The more you publish, the more firends you will get and it all turns into points in the end.

You can also use your Gather.com referral link and get more people to join as your friends. Gather used to pay "50 points" per each new member you referred. I *believe* they stopped paying for referrals in January but I am not sure. Either way, by referring friends you can build up your reader base, and earn more points in the long run.

Looking at my personal earnings, since November 2007, I have made approximately $235 on Gather.com - simply by republishing content I had all ready written. It may not seem like a ton of cash, but it has gotten me a lot of nice Kathy Bags, some Borders Books for the kids and a Pay Pal payment of $25! I give Gather 2 thumbs up!
