Should I sell my articles for money? Or start a blog?

If you have looked into making money online, most likely you have found out about sites like Constant-Content and Associated Content that wlll pay you to write “content”. “Content” refers to article(s) about a subject (“How to” articles, reviews, news, etc. Poetry and recipes are generally not considered sought after content).
Selling content for flat pay has it’s pros and cons:

PROS
* Quick money
* Relatively easy money
* Potential to be discovered by websites, newspapers, etc. Opportunity to get writing jobs. (Please allow me to put a disclaimer here: “results not typical”)
* Thats about it...

CONS• Generally low pay. Back in 2006/2007 a decent writer could easily earn $9 - $15 for a good, well-written article. Now, you likely shouldnt expect to make more than $2 - $7 for the same post. The problem is that since ’06-’07 hundreds of thousands of articles have been bought and paid for; so unless you are able to write a post that is “new news”, your article isn’t all that vauable because there’s already tons of them.

• Potential waste of time. Years ago companies who bought content were glad to accept anything submitted to them as they began to build their libraries of articles. Now, with so many submissions, you’re likely to get the “rejection stamp” on a minimum of 20% of what you submit. If each article takes you an hour to write; you spend 10 hours writing 10 articles and 2 of them or more are denied, you have just wasted 2+ hours of work time. Major Bummer.

• You’re getting ripped more than you think. As I have written about before; a good article has a “shelf life” up to 10 years. With this in mind, you can see how top bloggers are able to make good money; thousands of articles on their own website that are advertised properly = thousands and thousands of dollars.
So what is the “right” thing to do? Sell content for a flat rate or keep it for yourself and start a blog?

ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW:

Well, the truth is that making money off a blog ISN’T “hard”. There’s no “secrets” to it (any “secrets” that there are you can find for free on this site.
BUT, it does take time, pateients and complete dedication. I read a fact a while ago that said only 10% of bloggers make over $5,000 a year off their blogs and only 5% make over $10,000 a year. It said the average income reported for bloggers is UNDER $100 A YEAR. Why? Because those who do blog don’t know how to properly monetize their blog and/or after 4 – 8 months of making nothing they simply give up.

If you open a blog today, it will take about a month to a month and a half to get your blog indexed with search engines. So for the first 4 – 6 weeks, plan on writing and having yourself be your only audience.

After about 2 month has elapased, providing you have written several QUALITY articles every day and have spent at least an hour a day focusing on marketing; you can expect a few visitors a day. Literally A FEW. Those few visitors may or may not generate you any income. But you have to be motivated and keep going without any earnings (or very little). You have to force yourself to keep writing every single day and spend time promoting your site.

Once 6 months has elapased, you should have 360 or more articles (2 or more aricles a day x 30 days a month x 6 months). 360 articles is enough base content to start being really found in search engines – especially if you have a nice website. Having search engine results = people visiting your site = $$$.

After 8 or so months you should be seeing decent money coming in – providing you are utilizing your site; PPC advertisements, paid sponsors, etc.

As time progresses, your money will continue to grow – but you have to really keep up with it. If you stop posting on a regular basis you will lose readership and lose money.

In the end; its wiser to start a blog – providing you are motivated and have the time and patients to dedicate to it. If you are just looking for short-term, quick cash, sell your content for a few bucks.
I suggest working with Constant-Content because the pay is higher plus they offer a small bounty for referrals. Associated Content has VERY low pay and no referral program.
